Unlocked Handle May Cause Finger Injuries While Moving the Generator

This is a public service message. Norwall does not have the handle guards.

Generac has recalled 6500-Watt and 8000-Watt Portable Generators manufactured between 2013 and 2021. The recall affects more than 325,000 Generators sold in the United States and Canada sold since 2013.

This recall involves 6500-watt and 8000-watt Generac portable generators with the following Generator Product Names: XT8000E, XT8000EFI, GP6500, GP6500E, GP8000E and HomeLink 6500E portable generators, and DR models PRO 6500M and PRO 6500E portable generators.

Do not use a recalled generator until after repair.

Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission: “An unlocked handle can pinch consumers’ fingers against the generator frame when the generator is moved, posing finger amputation and crushing hazards.”

The recalls affects Generac and DR Branded portable generators.

The recall provides affected generator owners with a handle guard that prevents injuries caused when the handle is not locked and the generator is moved. An unlocked handle can pinch the user’s fingers against the frame while moving the generator.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Generac PowerSystems state that consumers should not use affected products until the handle guard is installed.

At the Generac Page, click on “where’s my serial number” to find the serial number on your generator.

To receive the handle guard that prevents injury:

  1. Click on the “Get Started” Button.
  2. Enter the Generator Serial Number
  3. Fill out the address form and submit.

The Address form does not change your registration address and is only used for shipping the handle guard.
