RA112L1 Automatic Transfer Switch Recall

Cummins Inc. has notified Norwall PowerSystems that it is recalling certain RA112L1 Residential Automatic Transfer Switch es(ATS). The ATS incorporates a QO Plug-On-Neutral Load Center manufactured by Schneider Electric with potential electrical issues that could lead safety concerns. Schneider Electric will inspect and repair or replace any installed QO Plug-On-Neutral Load Center with a serial number listed in the table at the end of this article.

The scope of the recall covers load centers manufactured by Schneider Electric including specific transfer switches that fall under the following conditions.

• All RA112L1 transfer switches manufactured between February 1, 2020, and January 12, 2022, are included in the recall.
• All RA112L1 transfer switches with date codes between 200561 and 220233 are included in the recall.

At the heart of the issue is a potentially loose neutral screw connection on the load center’s circuit breaker panel. The torque applied to the wire binding screw within the lug body to the Plug-on-Neutral bar may be insufficient. Over time, this unsecured electrical joint could result in losing the neutral­ connection and potentially lead to overheating at the load.

Travis LaVallie at Norwall noted that homeowners should not attempt to inspect the panel or repair it. A Schneider Electric authorized technician will inspect the affected panels and make any repairs necessary. Homeowners with a RA112L1 transfer switch should check the date code or manufacturing date of the ATS. If you have an ATS affected by the recall, contact Schneider Electric for a free inspection and repair, if necessary.

A loose electrical connection can overheat and has the potential for causing a fire. Burns and other signs of overheating at the load are symptoms of the issue, but a load center not exhibiting the symptoms may still have a loose connection that must be identified and fixed.

Other symptoms:

• A floating neutral in the panel may cause voltage fluctuations—higher or lower voltage than the rated voltage of 120 Volts or 240 Volts.
• The actual voltage supplied to installed circuits may vary as other connected loads turn on or off, or change.
• A voltage higher than normal or high heat could damage the connected loads.
• Fluctuating lights—lights may dim or brighten.
• Loads operate abnormally.
• Breakers that trip may not reset.

The product range affected are QO Plug-On Neutral (PON) l Load Centers manufactured at Plant code 15 ONLY, from February 1, 2020, through January 12, 2022, which is equivalent to date code 200561 through date code 220233.

What to do if you have a Cummins Inc RA112L1 Transfer Switch

Danger! Do not attempt to inspect or repair the load center yourself.

• Look in the table below for the serial number of your RA112L1 Transfer Switch. If the serial number appears in the table, the recall includes your transfer switch.
• You can also verify that the automatic transfer switch date code is between 200561 and 220233 and if the manufacturing date is between February 1, 2020, and January 12, 2022.

If your RA112L1 Transfer Switch meets either of the above two conditions, you must contact Schneider Electric and request an inspection or repair.
